Users have access priviledges and restrictions

TimeCellar Users are comprised of 3 classes:

Document Access

Administrators. The super administrator can always see and manipulate every document. Other minor-administrators may have access to all, or to a restricted set of, top level tabs that they have been given access to by the super administrator. Administrators create new users and specify which Tabs can be accessed.

Users can view, download, and upload documents in the tabs they have been diven access to.

Guests are restricted users. They can only view or download documents they have been given ccess to.

Scope of Control

The unit of control is the Tab. Most of this documentation uses the term "Tab" but thsi word can be used to describe sub-tabs (or if renamed, can be referred to as drawers or folders). The Tab is the name of a storage space that contains Documents. A document can be any storable digital file.

Documents can de deleted but are not immediately removed from the data storage, typically the super-administrator specifies when documents are to be physically deleted. Typically deletion is managed by the application after 30 days.

Versioning is a feature that allows you to create or upload another document with the same name as an existing one. The application will rename the previous document by adding a numbeer to its name. Therefore older versions of the same document can be kept for review.

Other Functions

The super-administrator can create any other kind of user, including an minor-administrator. Minor-administrators cannot create other administrators. When an administrator creates a user, the document tabs that the user can access are also specified. Minor-administrators are also limited to the tabs and sub-tabs thet were given access to.

An ordinary user can only upload documents to a tab they have access to, but can create sub-tabs under that tab. The user can also delete documents that they added to a Tab (uploaded or created within the application). They cannot delete those uploaded by others. Empty Tabs (alternately called folders, projects, binders, topics, etc.) can be deleted by any user.

A guest can only see and download documents in tabs she/he has been given access to. No uploading. No sub-tab creation. No deleting.
